Title Deciding Double-header This Weekend
NASR National Office posted Friday January 22, 2010.
After a hectic month of competition across three states, the 2009/2010 Carline Mufflers National Super Sedan Series culminates this weekend with two consecutive nights of racing in South Australia. The JD Couriers-sponsored penultimate round of the series will be contested at Adelaide’s Speedway City circuit on Saturday night (January 23), with the 40-lap Lukey Exhausts Grand Finale to be decided at Murray Bridge Speedway on Sunday evening (January 24).
Although Queensland’s Matt Pascoe possesses a significant points advantage heading into the final weekend of competition, the title is far from secured. Defending champion Darren Kane remains in strong contention, while third-placed Jamie McHugh and fourth-placed Steve Jordan are also well placed to pounce should Pascoe stumble at the final hurdle. In fact, the late series surge from Michael Doblo two years ago demonstrates that somebody could emerge from the pack to snatch the title. The likes of Dave Gartner, Michael Nicola, Kevin Purton and Sam Hughes are poised to pounce in what is shaping as an epic weekend of tin top competition.
As reflected in the series standings, Pascoe and Kane have been the standout performers with regard to feature race wins so far this season with two apiece, while. McHugh and Wayne Brims have also visited victory lane. Jordan, on the other hand, has been a model of consistency without visiting victory lane and a move to the top of the podium this weekend should see him move back into the top three in the championship.
Joining the contracted drivers in battle will be South Australia’s big hitters in the Super Sedan ranks, including former national champ Chris Blunden and veteran steerer Steve Stewart, who will be making his Carline series debut. Trevor Ware and Steve Vaughan will also be rejoining the NSSS fray, with several other locals expected to add their name to the list of nominations before racing gets underway.
