Questions & Answers

Q: Where do I fond heat race results?

- Craig

A: Full event results are available here: Results or by visiting mylaps.com and searching for "NSSS".

Q: Do the teams that attended Murray Bridge and were rained out gain any points?

- Alan

A: Hi Alan,

All the cars at Murray Bridge meeting received 150 Bonus Points which has been added to their Championship Totals. For your information heat points are only recorded when a round of heats has been completed and B Main points are recorded if the Feature race has commenced.

Q: Why is it that many local drivers choose not to support the Series? Do they feel they can't compete so they don't bother?

- Matt

A: Hi Matt,

All Super Sedan drivers are welcome to compete in the NSSS.

The NSSS was formed 7 years ago to promote and develop super sedan racing and in this time the quality of racing and the presentation of the teams has improved tremendously. This year several non contracted drivers have elected to compete in multiple rounds of the series and hopefully their success will encourage more drivers to compete in future years.

Q: What is the racing format for Mildura and Murray Bridge this year?

- Harry

A: The format for the Mildura and Murray Bridge rounds will have three rounds of heats.  The number of heats in each round will be determined by the number of cars.

Hope you can get to these rounds because the racing at the first two rounds has been excellent.

Q: As it appears there won't be any live audio of current meetings, will anybody be updating websites throughout the event with results?

- Alan

A: Hi Alan, as much as we would like results to be published during each meeting, our limited number of NSSS Officials makes this very difficult.

For upcoming rounds of the series, we will be endeavouring to offer some comments and results via the NSSS Twitter feed (search Twitter for @SuperSedans) or check the home page of the NSSS web site.

Q: Carline NSSS is not racing at Rockhampton anymore - why is that?

- Larry

A: Unfortunately this year, we were unable to accommodate a round in Rockhampton due to the need to balance the demands on competitors and the availability of suitable dates within the timeframes available for staging the series.

Q: Will you be considering Live Audio for the rounds this season, or will you be trying it for the near future? Also, live video over the coming years?

- Aidan

A: At this stage Aidan, the 3 WA rounds of the series will have live internet audio coverage, but due to a lack of personnel we are unable to provide this coverage at other rounds.

Consistent live video and audio is certainly an aim for the future of the series, but offering such services requires a lot of preparation, equipment and a dedicated team member to operate the technology which is not feasible at present.

Q: Will there be any pole shuffle's at this years rounds and if not would you consider introducing it at some stage? It's something I enjoy to watch but I rarely see it these days. Finally, did Speedway City show interest in hosting a round this season?

- Matthew

A: The NSSS Working Party is always prepared to consider ways to improve the format.  While there will not be any pole shuffles this series thatis not to say that they wont be considered for future series.

Speedway City was approached regarding the hosting a round of the 2011/2012 series, however the track declined.

Q: Who are the 4 local Commentators the Carline NSSS will be using for the series this year?

- Adrian

A: NSSS is now able to announce the commentators for 2011/2012 and there will be only two series commentators.

An agreement has been reached for Wes Beadman to commentate at the first 8 rounds while Jason Crowe will be doing the three rounds in Western Australia. NSSS is very pleased to have these two commit to the series.  They are both very experienced commentators and have a passion for Super Sedan racing.

Q: Are you going to have a free subscription newsletter for fans to get the latest news headlines?

- Marc

A: Hi Marc,

We are currently trialling the subscription service with World Series Sprintcars, as you may have noticed. If we receive a positive response this season we'll definitely look to expand the service to NSSS.

Q: Judging from your reply to other questions you couldn't reach a deal with BIS?

- Colin

A: Hi Colin.

We approached BIS and there were discussions between John Kelly and Manager NSSS over a number of issues but in the end BIS declined to host a round.

Q: What happened to Victorian rounds? Pretty sad that the only date is at Mildura. Was it money, not enough punters, or just more politics?

- Jim

A: Hi Jim, all the tracks that hosted rounds of the 2010/2011 NSSS were approached regarding the 2011/2012 series. Both Avalon and Warrnambool declined as did Mount Gambier.

Mildura was very keen to return to the NSSS schedule, and importantly, they agreed with our preferred date working in with the Murray Bridge round the following night.  Planning schedules is always difficult and there are many aspects to consider, most importantly, minimising the travel costs to the teams.

While it is disappointing that some tracks do not support the NSSS, the great news for this series is that it now becomes a true national series with rounds in Tasmania and WA and we have had very strong support from the teams through their expressions in interest.

Q: Just wondering, does Bill Miller ever receive any recognition for being the only driver to race in every round of the National Super Sedan Series?

- Tom

A: Hi Tom, currently there are actually two drivers that have raced in every round of the six years of the National Super Sedan Series, Bill Miller and Brad Smith.

Also prior to his accident in Brisbane last series David Gartner had competed in all the rounds of the first five years of the NSSS. At the 2009/2010 NSSS Presentation Dinner Bill Miller, Brad Smith and David Gartner all received Carline Muffler NSSS Recognition Awards to formally recognise their outstanding contribution to the series.

Each of these three drivers were presented with a trophy and interviewed by David Tapp at the dinner. Bill Miller has been making an outstanding contribution to super sedan racing across Australia for many years, both on the track when racing or off the track where he is very active in the administration at both National and State levels.

Tom, while I could answer your question with a simple yes, Bill is certainly one of the “unsung heroes” of Australian Speedway.

Q: With Queenslanders dominating this series since its inception, is the interest there from drivers from Tasmania and WA?

- Antoinette

A: Thanks Antoinette for raising this question.  The domination of the NSSS by Queensland teams is something that has been well noted by many of the southern based NSSS teams and they are very keen to see this domination come to an end.  Mick Nicola, David Gartner and Brad Smith have all finished in the top three positions in the series and with a bit of luck they could easily win the series.

You asked about the interest from Tasmania and WA drivers.  There has always been strong support from Tasmania with Brad Smith, Jarrod Harper, Kevin Purton and Sam Hughes regularly competing in the series and in the next series there will be at least two additional Tasmania teams.  You may not be aware but Brad Smith is one of only two drivers that has competed competed in every round of the NSSS to date.

It is very expensive for WA drivers and crews to travel across to the east coast to race in the NSSS.  However, both Keith Higgs and Garry Higgs have competed in rounds in the past and with the 2011/2012 NSSS travelling to WA we are hopeful that WA teams will join the series.

Q: Why no Tri-City mini-series this year?

- Harry

A: Hi Harry, while it had been great to have the tri-city series as part of the NSSS unfortunately all three tracks from last year declined to host rounds in the next NSSS.  However, as one door closes another opens.  We do have the opportunity to have new NSSS mini series with the three rounds in Tasmania and also three rounds in Western Australia.  We will make more announcements on this later.

Q: Will National Super Sedan Series have an app for us super sedans fans?

- Marc

A: Thanks for the question Marc.  We're working on setting up a mobile web app for the NSSS in the future - at present the resources present at the tracks on race nights make it difficult to provide live updates like the World Series Race Night Live Mobile does.  We are however, working on providing something similar for you Super Sedan fans out there, so stay tuned.

Q: It is great news that the Carline NSSS is coming to Tasmania.  How come there is no race in Hobart?

- Paul

A: Hi Paul, it is certainly great news for super sedan racing that the NSSS is going to Tasmania. Through great cooperation from the Tasmania track promoters we have been able to link the three NSSS rounds with the Grand National and Grand Prix meetings. This will certainly make for a feast of super sedan racing with the best super sedan drivers from around Australia competing in five major events.

In discussions with the Hobart promoters they declined to take a round of the NSSS as they wanted to concentrate on the Grand National meeting at Hobart. When I subsequently approached the Carrick promoters they were keen to host a second round of the NSSS which was great for the series.

It is interesting to note that Carrick will be the first track in seven years of NSSS to host two rounds in the one series.

Q: Who is this year's Carline NSSS Commentator?

- Aaron

A: Hi Aaron, as you would be aware the NSSS is expanding to Tasmania and Western Australia this year.

This extra travel puts increased pressure on our limited budget to administrate the series. Therefore we may not be able to afford the luxury of a series commentator.

With the series having multiple rounds in different regions around Australia we are currently looking at have a local based commentator for these rounds.
