History
The concept of a National
Super Sedan Series was officially endorsed in March 2005
at the Speedway Sedans Australia (SSA/ASCF) national
conference.
As a joint venture between SSA/ASCF and the National
Association of Speedway racing, the aim was to introduce
and develop into the National Speedway Calendar, a
professionally managed series for Super Sedans with a
focal point for television, media, sponsorship,
corporate involvement and the subsequent improved
profile for Super Sedans. |
 |
 |
It was agreed that the inaugural Series would be planned
for 2005/06 Season and so the following months were used
to organize the initial series, including race dates,
contracted drivers, budgets, sponsorship, and format.
Both the SSA/ASCF and NASR Boards were presented with
the budgets and other plans in September 2005 and both
Boards gave financial commitments for the inaugural
series.
|
| The
series began at Avalon Raceway, Geelong on the 7th
of January 2006 and concluded with a black tie
presentation dinner in Adelaide. Queenslander
Wayne Randall was crowned the new champion and
retained his title when the series expanded from
six to eight rounds the following season. |
| Since its inception, the National Super Sedan Series has been an overwhelming success, attracting big fields, large crowds and significant media exposure for competitors and participating sponsors. |
 |
The series has played a significant role in the growth of Super Sedan racing nationally and
in 2007 Carline Mufflers identified the benefits of being associated with such a successful national
competition and became the naming rights sponsor
for the series third season.

National Carline Manager David Atherton declared that “Carline is very happy to have the chance to be involved with one of the most exciting forms of motor sport in Australia. The National Super Sedan Series is a fantastic event, which is going from strength to strength, with some great cars and drivers. That’s what Carline is all about, cars and the people who drive them”.

Queensland’s
Michael Doblo came from nowhere during the first half of the Series after a number of finishes outside of the top 10 to reach magnificent form in the last four rounds, finishing 3rd at Avalon and then claiming the final three rounds at Hamilton, Mt Gambier and Murray Bridge.
The final three round wins clinched the title for Doblo aboard the Pontiac Grand Prix over Wayne Brims and Jamie McHugh. In fact going into the final round, seven drivers could have mathematically won the championship.
The Ocean tyres team celebrated their change in fortunes over the nine day period which ultimately won Doblo the Championship, with Doblo giving an amusing and rousing speech after accepting the Championship trophy from Carline National Manager David
Atherton at the black tie Presentation Dinner.
At the start of the 2008/09 series Carline
Mufflers extended its naming rights agreement for a further two years.
The series itself was also extended from eight to
ten rounds and welcomed back an event in New South
Wales.
|
| It was a
hotly contest series with the leader
board being shared by Wayne Brims,
Darren Kane and Brims again before
Michael Nicola took over after winning
the Tri-City rounds. A win in Avalon put
Kane back on top and he maintained his
points advantage with a second place in
the series decider at Murray
Bridge. |
